Bernadette Soubirous is one of the most famous saints in the world, notably for her testimony in 1858 of the 18 apparitions of the Virgin Mary in the rock of Massabielle on the outskirts of the town of Lourdes.

Following these revelations, she was quickly confronted by curious and sceptical people of all kinds.

About her meetings with the Lady, or rather "AQUERO" as she called her, Bernadette wrote in her diary "I am not in charge of making you believe it but of telling you".

Many books on the events of Lourdes have since been published. So why the umpteenth investigation?

Because, as Mgr THEAS, bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes at the time of the apparitions, said, "Lourdes only needs the truth".

The author Vittorio MESSORI, a journalist considered one of the main Italian Catholic authors, has devoted 30 years of work and research to the events that took place in Lourdes. Through his eyes of faith and historian, through a methodical analysis based on numerous documents, some of them unpublished, he removes the doubt on the "Bernadette" question. This work was carried out with the collaboration of Father Laurentin, the great specialist in the apparitions of Mary. Each of the nine chapters studies and destroys the objections imagined by Bernadette's detractors over the years.
