On several occasions, the diocesan directors of pilgrimages from France had asked Bishop Branthomme for a sequel to the book of Canon Jean-Baptiste Courtin, entitled "Lourdes, le domaine de Notre Dame from 1858 to 1947", considered at the time a historical "bible" of Lourdes.

This volume is therefore a continuation of this book, now out of print, and covers the period from 1947 to 1988. It recounts the memorable events and important transformations within the Sanctuary.

In the very beginning, in a preliminary part, will come a reminder/explanation of the message of Lourdes, a brief history of the organization of pilgrimages, an assessment of the prelature of Bishop Choqué and finally the pilgrimages after the war of 1977-1946.

Then there are three main parts. The first is devoted to the achievements under the direction of Bishop Théas from 1947 to 1970. Then the second part devoted to Bishop Donze from 1970 to 1988. The third part explains what there is about pilgrimages.

At the end of the book, a list of the various works and fittings of the Sanctuary from 1947 to 2004, will give you a clear idea of the stages of construction and development of the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes.
