The liturgical year offers the faithful the opportunity to relive the entire history of salvation and the life of Christ over the course of a year.
The new liturgical year begins on the first Sunday of Advent, four weeks before Christmas.
The end of the year is marked by Christ the King Sunday (one of the last Sundays in November).
The three-year calendar cycle allows us to read the three Synoptic Gospels:
-Year A is devoted to the Gospel according to Matthew,
-year B is devoted to the Gospel according to Mark  
-Year C is devoted to the Gospel according to Luke.

The Gospel according to John is read each year at certain celebrations.
